TRAIN THE BRAIN...WE’VE GOT THE BEAT! (Counseling, Pre-K through 5th, $1,079.17)

Teaching strategies to address the social and emotional needs of all students is vital to ensuring that students feel they have a safe and caring environment at our school. A lack of focus and self-confidence can lead to the student feeling isolated, acting out in class, or a decrease in their grades. The Bal-A-Vis-X program is a way to motivate and teach those skills with exercises that use sandbags, racquetballs, and a balance board to incorporate full-body movement which results in sensory-motor-cognitive integration. The students are taught different patterns and rhythms using the racquetballs and sandbags which can then be used by just one student up to an entire classroom.

GIVE OUR STUDENTS A VOICE (Dyslexia, $3,053.72)

When it comes to writing, most dyslexic students struggle with spelling and handwriting, as well as short-term memory problems.  The stamina and time it takes to produce a piece of writing often curtail the students' ability to produce work that is reflective of their actual capabilities.  With the use of speech-to-text capabilities, our students will be able to put their thoughts down on paper without worrying about the mechanics of our language or their handwriting.  These headphones will allow them to access this accommodation, and write freely and expressively, drawing on their experiences like the rest of the students in their class.
